This course will delve into some fundamental questions of agologie. It builts upon the introductory bachelor-courses. Students are challenged to discuss and analyse the definitions of agogiek. There is a specific focus on the relation between ago(lo)gie and philosophy. The political role of the agoog/agogiek/social-cultural field will be questioned from a political and philosophical point of view. Concepts such as worldviews, ideology and the political cosmopolitanism will be addressed from an ago(lo)gical point of view.
This course includes a group assignment (with presentation). Students will get acquainted in small groups (3-4 students) with the field and its political meaning. Each group works independently with an organization or local actor and Brussels is considered as a living lab.
Students are encouraged to actively participate in group discussions during class.
At the end of this course, the student will be able to
- critically analyze informal educational (agogical) concepts and apply them to informal educational practices
- analyze the political role and meaning of informal educational sciences
- understand the importance of ’the political’ for the educational field
- describe, illustrate and compare the most important concepts of worldviews and ideologie
- make links between the informal educational context and political-philosophical concepts
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 60% of the final mark.
SELF Teamwork determines 40% of the final mark.

In order to pass, students need to obtain a 10/20 on both the oral examination and the assignment. When a student does not obtain 10/20 on one of the examination components, this component has to be retaken during the second examination period. In the second examination period, the group assignment will be replaced by an individual paper.
