Course Content

'Academische taalbeheersing Nederlands' is a language proficiency course which focuses on the skills needed to adequately function in an academic context and which requires a B2 level in Dutch. The course is divided into two components.

Oral proficiency:

Throughout the year, students improve their speaking and presentation skills. In the lessons, individual language and pronunciation issues are identified by means of speaking and reading assignments. Students are stimulated to continuously work on said skills through continuous and self-assessment. Students are also asked to give smaller presentations on a regular basis as a preparation for the final (group) presentation.

Written proficiency:

In this introduction to academic writing, the lesson content is provided on the basis of the students’ specific needs. Particular attention is given to summarising texts, the use of genres and register, building an argument, and planning a text. Additionally, students are taught to correctly use references according to the APA style. A substantial part of the course consists of writing texts.
