Course Content

This course offers a general overview of the Italian history and culture during the decades that cover the period between the end of World War II and the turn of the century. More precisely, the most important historical and cultural events will be explained from a broad sociocultural perspective in order to provide students with a solid frame of reference. The following chapters will be discussed:

1. La fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e la nascita della Repubblica (1945-1948)
2. Il miracolo economico (1958-1963)
3. L'epoca dell'azione collettiva (1968-1973)
4. Gli anni di piombo (1973-1980)
5. Gli anni Ottanta (1980-1990)

Furthermore, excerpts from literary texts and newspaper articles closely linked to the contents provided in the theoretical part will be integrated as well. After providing a general introduction to the author, literary movement and general context, these texts will be prepared by the students in advance and analysed in class.
