Course Content

Based on a selection of 21st century novels the students are introduced to the most recent literary developments in German. In this seminar the students also make themselves familiar with the basic principles of literary analysis.

Additional info

Each student has to prepare a presentation of 20 minutes on a specific aspect of one of the selected novels. This presentation is later reworked into a paper. The work on the presentation and the paper is closely supported by the assistent.

Learning Outcomes

General competences

The students can:

apply basic concepts of literary analysis in their reading of the novels;

give an individual presentation in correct German at a basic level;

write a paper in correct German at a basic level.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
PRAC Presentation determines 40% of the final mark.
PRAC Paper determines 60% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Presentation with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

    Note: Individual presentation during the semester

Within the PRAC Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Paper with a relative weight of 60 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

    Note: Paper on the basis of the presentation, to submit during the exam period of June

Additional info regarding evaluation

Both the presentation and the paper are mandatory assignments. The student has to pass each of the two assignments in order to pass the course as a whole.
