This course provides an introduction about the role of AI and (big) data in society. Students study the issues, the influence of technology and learn to assess the applications of technology critically, but also study the way the media covers this, and how to communicate about technology with less technologically schooled people, such as policy makers.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

The evaluation consists of three parts:
- 25%: Active participation in workshop
- 25%: Workshop report
- 50%: Written exam
Not participating in the workshop implies an absent mark for this course.
Students must achieve a minimum score of 7/20 for the workshop part (active participation + report), and a minimum score of 7/20 for the written exam. Otherwise, the lowest score will be considered the final result for this course.
For the second examination period there is a replacement assignment for the workshop part. If you passed one of the two components, that point will automatically be transferred to the second examination period.
