Inhoud

This course addresses the key concepts and various approaches essential for (mis)understanding intercultural communication. We will examine the notions of culture and interculturality, with emphasis placed upon discerning the sources of cultural prejudice, recognizing cultural diversity and variation within groups, large or small, and finding ways to make sense of everyday intercultural experiences. We will also discuss the relation between the new realities of multicultural existences and transnational mobility and cultural complexities, including complex feelings of strangeness, discomfort and instability in dealing with intercultural encounters. The general aim of the course is to prepare students to negotiate intercultural relations from a critical and introspective viewpoint.

Doorlopende beoordeling met een wegingsfactor 50 en aldus 50% van het totale eindcijfer.

Toelichting: Continuous assessment 50%

Binnen de categorie WPO Presentatie dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

Mondelinge opdracht met een wegingsfactor 50 en aldus 50% van het totale eindcijfer.

Toelichting: Oral assignment to be delivered in small groups (either digital or on site) 50%

Continuous assessment 50%
Oral assignment to be delivered in small groups (either digital or on site) 50%

Exams in August/September: continuous assessment to be carried over (50%) and oral assignment (50%)
