Algemene Competenties

•    The student has knowledge of the regulations regarding clinical research and insight into the practical preparation and conduct of clinical studies. Basic insight in industrial valorisation of academic research results, i.e. in the protection of intellectual property, patenting, contract research with industry and start-ups
•    The student can guarantee personal safety of laboratory personnel, environmental protection and the quality of scientific and clinical research.
•    The student knows how to work safely with ionizing radiation, chemicals and biological material in biomedical and clinical laboratories. The student has knowledge and understanding of the scientific applications of ionizing radiation and radioactive substances.
•    The student adopts some state-of-the-art methods currently applicable in empirical research for confirming and validating research objectives. The selection of techniques provided form the foundation of other methods in the domain of general and generalized linear models such that the student can independently consult statistical literature to learn other techniques based on similar principles.

Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Schriftelijk examen met een wegingsfactor 67 en aldus 67% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie ZELF Groepswerk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Groepswerk met een wegingsfactor 33 en aldus 33% van het totale eindcijfer.

Each part is evaluated separately. The total mark is a weighted average of the marks corresponding to each part.

Statistics (weight 3): Group assignment (approx. 4 students) analyse a given dataset. Its conclusions are reported through a paper of maximally 5 A4 pages in the style of a scientific research publication. On top of that, each group searches a recently published (recent 2 years) research article in their field of interest. A critical essay is written of maximally 1 A4 page where the completeness of the research methodology of the selected publication is assessed. To discriminate among group members, each group member receives 5 minutes time to discuss the primary findings of the submitted reports. The initial mark of the written report corresponds to the average of the individual marks over the group members.

Protection and exploitation of research results (weight 2): Multiple choice exam of approximately 35 questions for which a passing mark is obtained if 62.5% of the questions are correctly answered. As a result, every mark obtained between 0 and 62.5% is normalized to end result between 0 and 10, while marks obtained between 62.5% and 100% is normalized to an end result between 10 and 20. 
Radioactivity, physical and chemical safety (weight 2): Open question exam of approximately 2 questions. In addition, one question about an article received during the lectures.

Biosafety (weight 1): Each student receives a problem statement during the lecture. At the exam the student is instructed to propose a solution to the problem where both the problem solving as well as the quality of the reasoning is assessed.
