Course Content

Theoretical foundations, structural analysis of industry (oligopoly, concentration, barriers to entry, market structure and performance), firm strategy (pricing, auctions, product differentiation, advertising, research & development, vertical integration, diversification), policy (including Belgian competition policy).

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Paper with a relative weight of 33 which comprises 33% of the final mark.

    Note: Analysis of a statement of a competition authority (EU, Belgium), with the accent on the economical foundations.
  • Written Exam with a relative weight of 67 which comprises 67% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Theory (2/3) / Assignment (1/3): economic analysis of a competition authority's ruling.

A final mark can only be obtained if the student participates in both parts. Marks of the assignment, if 10/20 or more, will be transfered to the next exam sessions.
