Course Content

This course provides a hands-on introduction to the analysis of literary prose, poetry, drama and theatre performance. Each member of the teaching team introduces a method (narratology, theories of poetry and drama, performance analysis) for approaching and analyzing literary texts and theatre in form and meaning.
Obligatory assignment: guided visit to the library.
In week 7: intermediate test.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The students know different methods for analyzing literary texts (prose, poetry, drama) and theater and can critically reflect on the affordances and limits of a chosen method.

The students are also able to apply these approaches autonomously in text analysis.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: written exam with possible exemption for the content of the intermediate test.
